Second-hand Smoke Media Campaigns

As an organisation that has been involved in the tobacco control sector for many years, the HSC has developed and delivered campaigns and resources to address the issues surrounding second-hand smoke.

The most recent second-hand smoke campaign was Smokefree Cars, launched in September 2006.

Previous second-hand smoke campaigns include:

  • Smokefree legislation, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health. This was designed to help publicise the new legislation that banned smoking in all indoor workplaces, including bars, clubs and restaurants from 10 December 2004.
  • Smokefree homes, in conjunction with the Quit Group, in 2004. This aimed to increase protection for non-smokers by informing people about the dangers of second-hand smoke and encouraging smokers to smoke outside.
  • A more general second-hand smoke campaign, with a focus on workplaces, in conjunction with the Quit Group in 2003.
